About Me
Welcome to my site everyone! My name is Teddy Murray and I was born and raised in Barry’s Bay which is a small town in Eastern Ontario. This region of vast forests, rivers and lakes was settled in the mid-19th century. Settlers emigrated from European countries such as Ireland, Poland and Germany. They struggled to convert forests to farms. Many of the men would work in timber camps in the winters to help make ends meet. The rich tradition of fiddle music originated in these camps and continues to this day in our community.
Like many rural regions of Canada and the United States, country music remains popular here. For me, early exposure to artists like George Jones, Merle Haggard, Hank Williams and Johnny Cash left a lasting impression. My first CD is a tribute to the genre of Classic Country.
As for the name of this CD, my family and I live about 10 kms north of Barry’s Bay. There is a lake out here called Paugh Lake and the area is referred to, by locals, as Paugh Lake. So I am a Paugh Laker. A friend of mine in high-school had a 1974 Chevy Nova with an 8-track player. We used to listen to a Kris Kristofferson 8-track frequently and one of our favourites was the Pilgrim (Chapter 33). This is one of the songs covered on my CD.
I hope you enjoy Paugh Lake Pilgrim!
